Please be considerate when calling. If you need to get a hold of me in an emergency I'll understand, otherwise EMAIL me. I check it frequently. When dropping off your car PLEASE call me and find out where to park it. Those of you that have been there know it's tight on parking. My bay has a sign on it and parking in front of other shops just causes a lot of hassle for me. Please refrain from doing it. The other 3 bays are not the place to drop your keys either. What's New? The HOT new thing is 5 speed conversions for automatic cars. I've done quite a few already and have a lot of request for them. It's cheaper than a rebuild and a LOT cheaper than a new automatic. Sorcing parts can be difficult and if you would like to get the parts yourself I can supply you with a complete list of the parts you'll need to get. Complete installs run about $3000 parts and labor or $1500 labor. All prices vary according to cost of the parts. My spring schedule is booking up fast so let me know in advance if you need something as I'm booked through the 24th of April 2008 currently. All work with have to be scheduled beyond that date. Note, There will be several times this summer when I'll be blocking off different weeks for events outside of work. Chip tuning is available if you can live without your car for a few days while the ECU is over nighted to the tuner. I ship to Jeff at Rocket Chip Chipping is available per his schedule. The inventory of parts keeps growing so if you're local and need something for an A4 I probably have it. Note, I do NOT stock part new or used for Rabbits, or any of the A1/A2 chassis cars. They are far and few between so if you need parts for those models please contact another supplier. I do have a large supply of A4 chassis automatic starters and axles. All used but in good condition. Call for pricing. |
| A couple of things about some of the common work I perform. One of the big requests is for intake cleanings of the TDI. Some of you are aware of the clogging issues and the dealer charging $600-$900 for the fix. I'm significantly less expensive for a proper job. There are a few issues that can occur one the cleaning has been completed. I want to point these out up front. About 10% of the cars will have a check engine light come on after you take the car out and really "get on it". That is due to the cars ability to actually breath and get full air into the system. Your check engine code will read negative pressure boost deviation. That means the MAF or mass air flow sensor cannot supply enough fuel to the engine because it is failing. Also, Timing belt systems do fail components sometimes. It is VERY important that you see me if your car makes any "odd" noises in the morning when you start it, by that I mean swishing that lasts for more than a few seconds. If it is on a continuous basis you have a roller failing or the timing belt tensioner. Failure to replace the belt will cost you the engine in all likelihood. Also, if you want Saturday well....join the club, you'll be waiting. Weekdays are much better on a short notice basis so burn a personal day or some vacation time and come learn something about your car. If you come early enough you can go do some cool stuff in the Capital city of WI. The shop has Wi-Fi and a lounge so come hang out. Can't make any guarantees on the radio station of the day but just deal with it! Got the morning squeaks? Older Passat (96-97)and Jetta(96-99) this is often the harmonic balancer failing, I stock them. A very common thing to hear in cold weather. Newer TDI's this is more of a chirp, that is generally the alternator clutch. Time to repair it, NOW. $70 for a part plus labor vs. $400 for a new alternator or worse yet the whole engine when it jams up the belts. Lost boost? There are many things it could be but it's usually a bad vacuum line or a bad actuator on the turbo. Yes, that's right, the WHOLE turbo DOES NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED!!!! This will save you some SERIOUS $$. |
| What the heck is a TDI? Well for those of you that don't have one it stands for Turbo Direct Injection. It's a Diesel engine from VW. Those of you with 04' and up cars have PD engines, while still a TDI it is a different injection system and that stands for pumpe dusse or twin pump.
